On a Delhi pitch that was sticky at first but got better for batting as the night went on, India capitalized on subpar bowling from the Bangladesh spinners to escape punishment. With a final push from Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh lifted India from 41 for 3 in the sixth over to 221. Even in more favorable batting circumstances, India's bowling proved to be too strong for Bangladesh, securing the series victory.
In both cases, Bangladesh's spinners fared poorly. The
spinners gave up 116 runs in their eight overs, while their fast bowlers bowled
12 overs for 102 runs. After that, the Indian spinners gave them a hard time,
conceding only 49 runs and five wickets in nine overs.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh said they wanted to
chase the target to take advantage of the dew that would come later. India,
however, chose to bat first to test their bowlers in the dew. Bangladesh
started their bowling with Mehedi Hasan Miraz, but his deliveries were either
too full or too short, and Sanju Samson took full advantage of them. On the
sticky pitch, the fast bowlers had a tough time. Samson and Suryakumar Yadav
fell to the slow pace of the pitch, while Abhishek Sharma tried to hit a big shot
against Tanzim Hasan but ended up getting out
Rishad Hossain, a promising leg-spinner, especially in
T20 cricket, struggled against Rinku, who was sweeping almost every ball. On
his fifth delivery, Rishad bowled too full, and Rinku slog-swept it for six.
Then, Mahmudullah gave away a free-hit. In Rishad's second over, he bowled
poorly, with his deliveries either too short or too full. Reddy took advantage,
hitting two sixes straight down the ground, and Rinku added another six with a
pull shot. That expensive over, which gave away 24 runs, helped India cross 100
runs within 10 overs.
After that, only Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman
managed to bowl without giving away boundaries. Mehidy had the toughest time,
as he couldn’t keep Reddy off strike and kept bowling in his sweet spot, which
resulted in 26 runs in the 13th over. Reddy looked like he was going to score a
hundred in just his second match, but a clever slower ball from Mustafizur
dismissed him for 74 off 34 balls.
Why Bangladesh not score 200+:à
Bangladesh has never scored more than 215 runs in T20Is,
and it's clear why: their batters struggle to play big, risky shots. In this
game, they tried to do something different by taking more risks, but it
didn't work for long. Parvez Hossain got bowled by
Arshdeep, Washington Sundar dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto again, Litton Das
couldn’t handle Varun Chakravarthy’s bowling, and Towhid Hridoy was caught out
by Abhishek Sharma’s delivery. By the seventh over, Bangladesh was in deep
trouble, with 46 runs for 4 wickets, and the game was practically over.
